Nashville has become well-known not just for our music, but our burgeoning art community and fashion community, so it is not surprising to find that Music City is also a hub for innovative skin care and beauty products. There have been quite a few advances in skin care in recent years, but rarely does something completely unique come along. However, Sept. 15 brought a new buzzword to Nashville’s beauty industry and that word was “patch.”
Several skin care consultants gathered at Jonathan’s in Green Hills to talk about the latest innovation from the skin care leaders who created Proactiv for acne. Now the company is introducing the Acute Care patch which fills wrinkles and lines without a trip to the dermatologist and without costly injections.
The advanced technology follows on the heals of the dermatologist company’s in-home microdermabrasion tool and micro-needle roller which changed the beauty industry for the better in previous years. Now the Nashville ladies are celebrating another shift in beauty with the introduction of a patch that removes wrinkles while you sleep. The patch releases hyaluronic acid and peptides into wrinkles and lines overnight with results often seen immediately.
The ladies at the Monday night meeting are already planning their next steps on introducing the Acute Care patch system to their friends and neighbors. The speakers made it clear that the patch is proprietary and light years ahead of anything else on the market. The patch goes on sale in 2015 but consultants and preferred customers can get it the fall in time to look fabulous for the holidays.
Skin Care 101: What are Peptides? Peptides, proteins, and collagen
What Are Peptides?
Peptides are molecules made up of two or more amino acids linked together by the same peptide bonds found in proteins. Peptides are closely related to protein. In fact, when the number of amino acids is less than about 50, these molecules are called peptides while longer chains are called proteins. Peptides and proteins are present in every living cell and are responsible for many biochemical activities including acting in enzymes, hormones, antibiotics, etc.
Peptides & Collagen
Peptides are listed in many better skin care products, and they perform important functions in the skin. As people age, they lose collagen which results in sagging and wrinkled skin. In Southern areas like Nashville, too much sun exposure makes the damage happen more rapidly.
Since collagen is a protein composed of long chains of amino acids linked together by peptide bonds, peptides play an important role in replacing lost collagen. As collagen breaks down, the protein chains break up into smaller chains of peptides. The resulting peptide chains send signals to the body to produce more collagen.
Since peptides are small, they can penetrate the skin’s protective barriers. Applying peptides directly to the skin through good skin care products tricks the skin into thinking that it has lost collagen recently and needs to produce more.
Peptides & Skin Care Products
Peptides break down easily, and it is important they are only used in products with ingredients that do not cause them to break down. In addition, while peptides are small enough to penetrate the skin, combining them with the wrong ingredients may hinder their ability to penetrate and work properly. This is why it is always important to use products which combine the right ingredients with the peptides.
